Rockets go up 3-2 on Warriors, Paul hurt

HOUSTON (AP) Chris Paul's grit and veteran leadership have pushed the Golden State Warriors to the brink of elimination.

Now the Houston Rockets must wait to see if his injured leg is strong enough to help them take one last step to the NBA Finals.

Eric Gordon came off the bench to score 24 points and his steal on Golden State's last possession secured a 98-94 victory Thursday night that gave the Rockets a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference finals. But the victory came with a cost, as Paul had to leave the game in the final minute with a right hamstring injury that could keep him out of Game 6.

James on record 12th All-NBA first team

NEW YORK (AP) LeBron James was unanimously selected to the All-NBA first team for a record 12th time, while Houston's James Harden also appeared on all 100 first-team ballots.

They were joined Thursday on the first team by New Orleans' Anthony Davis, Golden State's Kevin Durant and Portland's Damian Lillard.

Bucks' Brown: I get mad when I view tape

MILWAUKEE (AP) NBA player Sterling Brown says he tried to remain calm when Milwaukee police used a stun gun to take him down during his arrest for a parking violation.

In an interview aired on ABC's "Good Morning America" Friday, the Milwaukee Bucks player says police pinned him down and held his hands behind his back then used a Taser on him outside a Walgreens store Jan. 26.

HOUSTON (AP) The Houston Rockets are so full of physical defenders that Golden State coach Steve Kerr said many look like they could play football.

And with three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt watching from a courtside seat Thursday night, this team long known for its powerful offense relied again on its defense to beat the Warriors 98-94 and take a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference finals.

Clippers give coach Rivers extension

LOS ANGELES (AP) The Clippers and coach Doc Rivers have agreed to a contract extension that will keep him around to oversee the post-Lob City era.

The team announced the extension Wednesday while not disclosing terms of the deal. Rivers was set to enter the final year of his five-year contract next season.

Rockets to honor Santa Fe victims

HOUSTON (AP) When the Houston Rockets suit up for Thursday night's Western Conference finals game, they'll carry onto the court a remembrance of the 10 people who lost their lives in last week's Texas school shooting in Santa Fe.

Each player's uniform will feature a gray rectangular patch on one shoulder that will read: "Santa Fe HS" when they meet the Golden State Warriors in Game 5. The words will be in green writing with a yellow outline as a nod to the school's colors.

Simmons, Mitchell unanimous All-Rookies

NEW YORK (AP) Philadelphia's Ben Simmons and Utah's Donovan Mitchell are unanimous selections to the NBA's All-Rookie team.

The two guards received all 100 first-place votes from a panel of sports writers and broadcasters. Both players helped their teams reach the second round of the playoffs.

Mutombo to receive Sager Strong Award

NEW YORK (AP) Hall of Fame basketball player Dikembe Mutombo will receive the Sager Strong Award at this year's NBA Awards show.

The award is named for longtime Turner Sports sideline reporter Craig Sager and presented annually to an individual who has been a trailblazer while exemplifying courage, faith, compassion and grace.

GoFundMe page eyes $1M for LeBron statue

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) LeBron James may go from idolized to immortalized in his hometown.

A GoFundMe account has been established with a goal to raise $1 million to sculpt and erect a life-size statue of James in Akron, where he began his basketball career before becoming a superstar with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
