Iowa State knocks off No. 8 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) No. 8 Texas Tech had pulled even when Iowa State guard Nick Weiler-Babb pulled up from just above the free throw line and put the Cyclones back in front.

Marial Shayok scored 20 points, Michael Jacobson had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Weiler-Babb knocked down the go-ahead jumper inside two minutes as the Cyclones handed the Red Raiders their first Big 12 loss with a 68-64 victory Wednesday night.

The Cyclones (13-4, 3-2 Big 12) stopped a two-game losing streak coming off a 17-point win over No. 7 Kansas that gave them a 2-0 start in conference. Iowa State matched its win total from last season, the school's lowest in 16 years.


KSU gets another road upset at No. 20 OU

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Kansas State guard Barry Brown didn't need any last-minute heroics this time.

After hitting game-winners in the final minute of the Wildcats' previous two games, he helped Kansas State control Oklahoma from start to finish. Brown scored 25 points as Kansas State beat the 20th-ranked Sooners 74-61 on Wednesday night.


No. 21 Houston gives Sampson 600th win

DALLAS (AP) Houston coach Kelvin Sampson has been pushing Corey Davis Jr. to be more aggressive and look for more shots.

"He's almost too unselfish," said Sampson, though the senior guard seems to be getting the message from a coach who got his 600th career victory Wednesday night.


Brown helps No. 14 Auburn rout Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) Auburn guard Bryce Brown said he fired up a couple of long-range shots Wednesday night that likely had his coaches "shaking their heads."

"But when I make it, they don't tend to be mad about it," Brown said with a smile.


Garza's 22 get No. 23 Iowa by Penn State

Louisville holds off BC after UNC upset

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Making all but four of his 16 shots was pleasing enough for Jordan Nwora, who complemented his career night with a double-digit rebounding performance that has become habit this season.

Louisville certainly needed the sophomore forward's impressive efforts on both ends to earn a hard-fought victory over Boston College.


S. Carolina rallies by Vandy, 4-0 in SEC

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Yes, Hassani Gravett heard what Vanderbilt guard Saben Lee said to draw a technical foul with 1:38 left to set up a five-point swing for South Carolina.

Gamecocks coach Frank Martin reached over quickly, tapping his senior guard on the arm as he told his senior guard not to answer.


Tulsa beats UConn after coaches tossed

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The coaches weren't around to see all of it, but reserve Jeriah Horne scored a career high 27 points and Tulsa defeated UConn 89-83 Wednesday night, snapping a two-game conference losing streak.

Both Tulsa coach Frank Haith and UConn coach Dan Hurley were ejected with 11:40 to play in the second half and Tulsa leading 61-47. Haith protested a foul call against his forward DaQuan Jeffries and Hurley began yelling at Haith. The two exchanged words and officials assessed both two technicals before play resumed.


Ponds has 22, St. John's beats Creighton

NEW YORK (AP) Shamorie Ponds had 22 points and five assists in his return from a back injury and St. John's broke away from Creighton for an 81-66 victory Wednesday night.

Mustapha Heron scored 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting for the Red Storm (15-3, 3-3 Big East), who lost their previous two games. That quickly knocked St. John's out of the AP Top 25 this week after the school's first appearance in four years.


Reed has 30 to lift Clemson by Ga. Tech

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) Marcquise Reed was frustrated his final year in the Atlantic Coast Conference began with three straight losses. He took it upon himself to make sure Clemson's losing streak didn't get any longer.

Reed had 19 of his career-high 30 points in the opening half as the Tigers opened up a double-digit lead and held on to defeat Georgia Tech 72-60 on Wednesday night.
